Prado Rey is a family winery belonging to the Cremades family since the late twentieth century, when Javier Cremades decided to cultivate a total of 520 hectares of vineyards on the estate of the Real Sitio de Ventosilla, some of them very old in order to produce wines of high quality and great international prestige.
The vineyards of this estate are divided into 7 payments where the varieties of Tempranillo, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are grown. These payments are called: Hoyo Dornajo, La Mina, Prado del Rey, El Pino, Los Robles, Valdelayegua and Salgüero, all of them with large extensions of between 25 and 110 hectares where there is full control over the vineyards, with the order to obtain a high quality grape.
The history of Bodegas Prado Rey dates back to the 16th century when the estate of the Real Sitio de Ventosilla was acquired by Queen Isabel la Católica until in 1521, King Carlos I donated it to the Marquis of Denia, whose descendants later in the 17th century begin the construction of a palace and till the land for its cultivation and livestock use. In the nineteenth century, the farm became part of the Duke of Caldas until 1921 when the land is purchased by private individuals for agricultural and livestock.
In order to meet the demand for white wines of the Verdejo variety, it was decided to create the Rueda winery, a few kilometers from the Real de Ventosilla estate, next to the A-6.
This winery comes under the values of innovation and wine wisdom to produce exclusive wines of the Verdejo variety, relying on the most avant-garde technology such as the Boreal or the CO 2 cooling systems. This allowed them to lead the market a few years after their implementation in the denomination of origin.
Looking for innovation, Prado Rey, is one of the few wineries in Ribera del Duero that dared to expand its boundaries in the Rioja appellation of origin.
Following the philosophy of producing high quality wines through the cultivation of old vines, the use of technology, the care of the land and respect for traditions, Prado Rey was established in the Rioja Alta, specifically in the municipality of Nájera, in very clayey soils, where she continues to develop her ambitious project to produce high quality wines with an exclusive personality.
