In 1848, Toribio Lecanda buys the Marqués de Valbuena a 2,000-hectare farm in the Ribera del Duero; Later, in 1864, his son Eloy Lecanda, founded the winery and began to make high quality brandy, obtaining the Grand Cross of Isabel la Católica and becoming official supplier of the Royal House in 1876.

In 1915 his two wines Vega Sicilia Único and Valbuena were born, soon becoming very exclusive wines famous among the Spanish aristocracy, forging the legend of the most exclusive wine in Spain.

In the middle of the 20th century, the denomination of origin Ribera del Duero begins as such, under the guidance of Jesús Anadón. In 1982, the winery was acquired by David Álvarez, developing a policy of harmonization of the innovative currents demanded by the sector at that time. In 1992, Vega Sicilia acquired the Alión winery in Peñafiel, which had all the necessary technologies for the innovation of the winery.

In 2001 he bought Bodegas Pintia, in order to produce the best Toro wine, and to this day Vega Sicilia is still the winery that produces some of the best and most exclusive wines from around the world.
