The Jumilla wine region produces wines in southeastern Spain. Specifically in an area located between the provinces of Albacete and Murcia, whose epicenter is the municipality of Jumilla. Jumilla wines stand out for their enormous quality and international recognition. In fact, Monastrell, the main grape variety, stands out for its great worldwide recognition. For this reason, Jumilla wines are so popular and important.

Jumilla currently has about 25,000 hectares of vineyards. In them, the Monastrell variety is the one that stands out the most and with which great Jumilla wines are made. Also, more varieties such as Airén, Chardonnay or Merlot are grown, although in smaller proportions. For this reason, without a doubt, the queen grape variety in Jumilla is Monastrell.

It is a wine-growing region with a lot of history, as remains from 3,000 BC have been found. Consequently, the main historical studies suggest that in Jumilla wine is made since the Ancient Age or before. For this reason, it is undoubtedly a region with a lot of tradition and wine culture. Although, it was not until the nineteenth century when the growth of the vineyard in Jumilla was enormous due to global needs for wine production. This was because a plague known as Phylloxera devastated much of the European vineyards. So in Jumilla, this occasion could be used to increase its wine production and exports.

Jumilla wines, specifically the Monastrell, stand out for their great expressiveness on the nose. In addition, they are powerful and well-structured wines with very marked fruity notes. The tannins are noble and persistent, and the aromas are well integrated in the mouth. Wines from emblematic wineries such as Juan Gil or Casa Castillo make Jumilla wines with these qualities that continue to gain prestige.
