The history of the denomination is relatively young, since it was obtained in 1991, but it is a land that for many centuries the vine has been cultivated, as evidenced by testimonies of people from the area and even old documents, including the X century.
The climate is continental with Atlantic influences, where the temperature variations are large, usually all year round. The average annual rainfall is 407 mm.
The soils are clayey with marl, sand and gravel, whose limestone content is very variable, from 1% in Santovenia to 35% in Valoria on an altitude of about 750 meters above sea level.
The most cultivated varieties are Verdejo, Albillo, Tempranillo and Garnacha. Their wines, therefore, varied (Tintos, Blancos, Jóven, Crianza ...) of excellent quality, unique in Spain.
