Cantalobos is a winery located in the El Bierzo region. Here, the winery has several hectares of vineyards where they mainly cultivate the Mencía and Godello varieties. These vineyards are divided into different plots with different locations in the area. As a result, the wines obtain different contributions from the varieties that are combined in the Cantalobos winery.
The average altitude of the vineyards is between 500 and 600 meters above sea level. These are usually located on slopes with clay soils. Although, the Cantalobos vineyards are divided into different subzones with different microclimates, soils and orientations. Thanks to this, Cantalobos wines obtain a special organoleptic profile from the different contributions of the terroir.
Cantalobos: Winery and vineyards
At Bodegas Cantalobos they are very concerned about the maximum care of the vine. For this reason, they carry out ecological work in the vineyard in order to get the most out of the quality of the vines. Likewise, the harvest is always done manually at sunset in order to obtain a perfect and very fresh grape.
The winery has stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentations are carried out. Also French oak barrels, in which Cantalobos Mencía Barrica wine is aged in wine. This aging is a very elegant and smooth Mencía that perfectly reflects the typical notes of the variety with some aromatic contributions from French oak.
